General Motors, LLC has announced a safety recall affecting 40,233 Chevrolet Blazer EV vehicles from model years 2024-2025 due to defective parking brake wiring harnesses.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) safety recall report, approximately 1% of these vehicles, or about 402 vehicles, are estimated to have the wiring defect.
The recall covers Chevrolet Blazer EV vehicles manufactured between October 5, 2022, and January 31, 2025.
The defective rear parking brake wiring harness may become damaged or corroded during normal driving conditions, causing the parking brake to activate unexpectedly while driving or completely lose function when parked.
Both scenarios create serious safety risks that can lead to crashes, prompting federal regulators to classify this as a critical safety issue.
General Motors will provide free inspection and repair services for all affected vehicles, including harness rerouting, protective tape installation, or complete harness replacement when necessary.

What’s Wrong with the Blazer EV Parking Brake System?
The Chevrolet Blazer EV recall comes from a design flaw in the routing of the parking brake wire harness.
The harness routing does not adequately protect the wires from excessive flexing during normal driving conditions.
The wiring harness supplier, Lear Electrical Systems De Mexico, manufactured the defective chassis wiring harnesses at their facility in Matamoros, Coahuila, Mexico.
General Motors’ investigation found that the damage occurs at the sharpest bend in the harness where wires experience the most stress and movement.
During normal vehicle operation, this constant flexing can cause the wire insulation to wear away, making the wires susceptible to corrosion.
In severe cases, the wires can become completely severed, leading to total parking brake system failure.
The investigation began on March 18, 2025, when a GM brand quality manager submitted an issue through the company’s Speak Up For Safety program after reviewing customer complaints.
By May 21, 2025, GM had identified 97 complaints potentially related to damaged parking brake wiring received between August 15, 2023, and May 15, 2025.
On June 18, 2025, GM’s Safety Field Action Decision Authority decided to conduct this safety recall.
How to Check If Your Blazer EV Is Affected
All 2024-2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV vehicles manufactured during the specified production period may be affected by this recall.
The recall includes 29,865 vehicles from the 2024 model year and 10,368 vehicles from the 2025 model year.
Importantly, 2025 model year Blazer EV vehicles built after January 31, 2025, have a redesigned harness and are not affected by this recall.
Regular gasoline-powered Blazer models are also not affected by this recall.
To determine if your Chevrolet Blazer EV is included in this recall, you can:
- Contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 and provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
- Visit your local Chevrolet dealership, where service representatives can check your specific vehicle using your VIN
- Check the NHTSA website and search using your VIN once the recall information becomes available on June 24, 2025
GM’s internal recall number for this issue is N252503010, while the NHTSA campaign number is 25V433.
Warning Signs of Parking Brake Issues
Unlike some vehicle defects that provide no advance warning, this parking brake wiring problem may give drivers several warning signs before complete failure occurs.
Drivers may receive a “service parking brake” warning message on their vehicle’s dashboard display.
In some cases, the vehicle may refuse to shift out of park, preventing normal operation.
Some drivers have reported experiencing rear wheel lock-up while driving, which is extremely dangerous and requires immediate attention.
Other drivers have reported complete loss of parking brake function, meaning that the vehicle may roll away when parked on an incline.
If you experience any of these symptoms in your Chevrolet Blazer EV, you should contact your dealer immediately to get the vehicle repaired.
Potential Dangers of the Parking Brake Defect
Driving a Chevrolet Blazer EV with defective parking brake wiring poses serious safety risks in multiple scenarios.
When the parking brake activates unexpectedly while driving, it can cause sudden deceleration or rear wheel lock-up, significantly increasing the risk of losing control and crashing.
This unintended activation is particularly dangerous at highway speeds or in heavy traffic where sudden braking can cause rear-end collisions.
Conversely, when the parking brake system fails completely, the vehicle may roll away while parked, especially on inclined surfaces.
A runaway vehicle can strike pedestrians, other vehicles, or property, potentially causing serious injuries or fatalities.
The parking brake system serves as a critical backup safety feature when the primary braking system fails, so losing this function compromises overall vehicle safety.

Steps Blazer EV Owners Should Take
