Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) has issued a major safety recall affecting 250,651 vehicles due to defective curtain airbags that may not provide adequate protection during crashes. According to the safety recall report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, this insufficient pressure retention comes from improperly sealed seams.
The recall covers 2022–2025 model year Chrysler Pacifica and Voyager vehicles, with approximately 14% of these vehicles, or 35,091, estimated to have the defect. The faulty curtain airbags may not retain sufficient pressure during deployment, which significantly reduces occupant protection and increases the risk of partial or complete ejection through side windows during certain types of crashes.
This serious safety issue prompted federal regulators to classify the recall as a “Do Not Drive” advisory, meaning affected vehicle owners should stop driving their vehicles immediately and park them outside until repairs are completed.
Why is There a Recall on These Vehicles?
The recall stems from a manufacturing defect in the curtain airbags supplied by Autoliv ASP, Inc. These side-impact airbags are designed to deploy during crashes to prevent occupants from being ejected through side windows. However, the defective airbags may not maintain proper pressure during deployment, failing to meet federal safety standards.
Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 226 requires that curtain airbags prevent a test headform from displacing more than 100 millimeters beyond a specific point during impact testing. The suspect airbags may allow displacement beyond this safety threshold, creating a serious risk of occupant ejection.
The timeline of events leading to this recall began in April 2023 when Transport Canada notified Chrysler that compliance testing was taking place. By November 2023, Canadian regulators found a potential noncompliance issue during testing of a 2023 Chrysler Pacifica. After extensive investigation and testing through 2024 and early 2025, Chrysler determined that a supplier manufacturing issue existed in certain curtain airbags produced between May 2022 and November 2024.
Of the 250,651 vehicles recalled, 40,983 are 2022–2025 Chrysler Voyagers and 209,668 are 2022–2025 Chrysler Pacificas. The recalled Voyagers were manufactured between May 17, 2022, and November 3, 2024. The affected Pacificas were manufactured between May 10, 2022, and November 3, 2024.

How Do I Know If My Chrysler Pacifica or Voyager is Affected?
Unlike many vehicle defects, this particular airbag issue has no symptoms or warning signs that drivers can detect before the airbag deploys. Since there are no early warning signs, you should look up your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on Chrysler’s website or contact your local Chrysler dealership for assistance.
Is There a Fix for the Curtain Airbag Issue?
Chrysler is providing free repairs for owners affected by the curtain airbag recall. The company will replace defective curtain airbags with properly functioning units that meet federal safety standards. Depending on your specific vehicle, you may receive replacement of one or both curtain airbags.
Chrysler began notifying owners of affected vehicles via mail starting June 30, 2025. All repairs will be performed at no cost to vehicle owners, including parts and labor. Chrysler dealers have been notified of the recall since June 24, 2025, and are prepared to perform the necessary repairs.
